Wordsworth, himself tells us that his aims in writing the prefacer was not to give an elaborate account of his theory of poetry or to make a systematic, defense of his point of view. He added the Preface because he felt that his poems were of new kind, both in theme and style. The first volume of the Lyrical Ballads was published without any preface. It had only a brief Advertisement.
Wordsworth has chosen the various of humble and rustic life for a reason. These reasons are i)in aspects number of humble and rustic life feelings are freely and frankly expressed ⅱ) the manners of the rustics aне not sophisticated. iii) in rustic life, human passions are connected with the grand and noble objects of nature.
Every poem in the collection differs from contemporary poetry because there is nothing mean and trivial about it Evеrу one of his poems has a worthy purpose that of enlightening the readers. and purifying feelings their emotions. In his poems are more important than action. and situation. He has selected natural themes, and he has used natural language.
Wordsworth emphasizes the social function of poetry. A poet writes not for his pleasure alone, but for the pleasure of his readers. A poet who has greater and his readers. more lively sensibility, greater porter of life Imagination and greater knowledge of life.
Poetic truth is much higher than the truth of philosophy or history. poetry gives pleasure because as it's a) imitates nature, well, b) it increases our knowledge and c) understanding of the primary nature of man.
